Axiom Menu Basics

What displays on your Axiom menu is determined by the contents of a simple text file named aximenu.cfg. The aximenu.cfg can be modified in various ways to customize your Axiom menu, but in this article, we’ll show you how to prevent products that aren’t installed from displaying on the menu.

The default location for the aximenu.cfg is C:\Program Files (x86}\Axiom\V8\aximenu\

Why would I want to hide items from my Axiom menu?

There are a couple of reasons.

  • Cleanliness. It is simpler to operate when the only items on your list are the ones you have installed right now.
  • It suppresses user confusion. This helps users and admins. Users aren’t left trying to figure out why some things don’t work. Admins aren’t put in a position where users are asking them why the menu items don’t work.

Hide from the menu Axiom products that are not installed

Hiding uninstalled products from the Axiom menu is super easy. Open the aximenu.cfg, and near the top you’ll see a set of lines containing text “iftargetnotexist”. These lines control the display of the products in your menu.

  1. Place a colon (:) in front of the line that reads “iftargetnotexist=show”.
  2. Remove the colon (:) from the line that reads “:iftargetnotexist=hide”

Now save your changes and restart MicroStation to see the updated Axiom menu.
