Global File Changer - How can I report non-compliant design file settings in multiple files?

This article walks you through reporting on settings in the Design File Settings dialog box in multiple files.

This article uses the built-in Report design file settings violations… custom feature of Global File Changer to perform this task.

The Report design file settings violations… feature is designed around the idea that each project has consistent design file settings that should be the same for each file in that project. It compares your list of selected files against a file that is known to have the correct design file settings. It then creates a report identifying each file that contains different settings and lists the differences for each violating file.

  1. Load Global File Changer.

  1. Go to Settings | Restore Factory Defaults…, and press <Yes> when prompted.
This is a precaution to ensure there are no other features or settings active that might impact your result.
  2. Next to the Design Files: field, press the <Select...> button.
  3. Either drag and drop your files into the Choose Files to Process dialog box, or navigate to and select your files for processing. Press <OK> when finished.

  1. Go to Manage design file settings | Report design file settings violations…

  1. Press the <Browse…> button at the top-right, then navigate to and select the DGN file with the correct design file settings.
  2. By default, all settings are checked.
    a. If you’d like to compare all design file settings, proceed to the next numbered step.
    b. To compare most, but not all design file settings, individually select categories on the left and uncheck the settings you aren’t interested in comparing.
    c. To compare only a few design file settings, press <Clear All Categories>, then choose your categories of interest and check the settings you would like to report.
  3. Go to File | Save As…, then navigate to a convenient location to save your DSR (Design Settings Report) and press <Save>.
  4. Press <OK> to return to the main Global File Changer dialog.
  5. Press <Start> to process your files.
  6. After processing has finished, go to Manage design file settings | Report design file settings violations…, and press <Display Report> to see your results.

The report identifies each processed file containing design file settings that differ from the standard file and lists the differences.
