SpecChecker - How can I change all element symbology to bylevel in multiple files?

This article walks you through using SpecChecker with a pre-created rules file to correct the symbology of elements to ByLevel across multiple design file models. ByLevel makes an element use the corresponding symbology settings of the level it belongs to.

Attached to this article is a RUL file that SpecChecker uses to check your design file elements. A RUL file contains rules that SpecChecker uses to report or correct element violations. The RUL file we’re using for this process contains rules that correct elements.
Warning: This will make changes to your files. Ensure you have valid backups before proceeding.

The provided rule file contains individual rules for each part of an element’s symbology – color, style, weight. If an element’s color is ByLevel, but its weight is by element, the weight will still be corrected.

  1. Save the provided Correct-set_symbology_bylevel.rul file to a convenient location.
  2. Load SpecChecker from the Axiom ribbon/menu.

  1. Go to Settings | Restore Factory Defaults…, and press <Yes> when prompted.
This is a precaution to ensure there are no other features or settings active that might impact your result.
  2. Use the Models: menu to select which models to process per design file.

  1. Next to the Files: field, press the <Edit List...> button.
  2. Either drag and drop your files into the Choose Files to Process dialog box or navigate to and select your files for processing. Press <OK> when finished.

  1. Next to the Rules File: field, press <Select...>, then navigate to and select the Correct-set_symbology_bylevel.rul file saved previously.
  2. Next to the Report File: field, press <Select…>, then navigate to a convenient location, enter a name for your report and press <Select>.
  3. Press <Start> to process your files.

When the process is complete, all graphic elements in your processed design file models will have symbology set to ByLevel.
